Pandora

Pandora has enabled me to make a old/classic holiday songs station. I now feel like I'm in a Fallout bar where it's mysteriously Christmas. Pass the iguana on a stick, please! XD

Reading the actual complaint (38 pages) filed against Mohamed Osman Mohamud, the 19 year old who tried to blow up a 25,000 person Christmas tree lighting event in Oregon, is really chilling. I feel bad for his family, who it's clear he felt were holding him back from being the best jihadist he could be. -_-

NYAF/NYCC thingy

So, awesome - seeing a full page ad for Otakon, with my artwork, in the NYAF/NYCC program guide. I didn't know they were going to do that. Not so awesome - 96,000 people attended, every one of which would have gotten a program guide, and no one will ever know it was my art. :(

Also, note to self - rice, kidney beans, sliced fat-free hot dogs, and fresh guacamole does not make a very tummy-pleasing combination, even if it tastes good.

Why Square, why?

Maybe I'll just blame the Enix half. I give Final Fantasy XIV extremely high marks for sound and vision, and excruciatingly low marks (can I give negatives?) for interface and content. Seriously - only four parts of one main quest per starting town, then fewer than one side quest per *level* in an area? The game is 100% grind - kill the same half dozen enemy models over and over and over in hopes of getting the precious drops that allow you to try and probably fail in crafting... at which point you'd be lucky if you could ever make anything functional. You need six different types of crafting in order to product a finished thing, which wouldn't be so bad if the failure rate wasn't so abysmal. Maybe I'm missing something, but right now I'm just sad I wasted four days on it, and disappointed because the game *looks* so good. :(

Also, the power has been out here so much lately - 5:30-9:30pm yesterday and then again from 3-11am this morning - and this isn't the first time this week. I'm having a hard time getting anything productive done because I'm afraid to lose it.

SATA ANDAGI

Yesterday, nimgrim, yusaku_godai, and I went into NYC to go to B&H for more supplies for Otakon - another backdrop support, some paper, and a monitor calibrator. Having finally moved up in the world and purchased a large format printer, it quickly became apparent that having five differently calibrated monitors in active use in the house was messing up some very expensive prints.

Afterward, since it was only a short trip once we exited the city, we all went to Mitsuwa for food. They were having one of the specialty food festivals that they frequently hold. We got there too late to sample the special ramen types they had been offering, but one thing they still had in stock was...

SATA ANDAGI

And my otaku funny bone was deeply tickled. They were much, much denser than I expected, and a little bit more greasy than I would have liked, but still very good, and I couldn't not get them. :)

This'll hurt in a bit...

I haven't been this badly sunburned since I last went to the beach. That's what six hours hauling heavy stuff around and garage cleaning will do to you.

On another note - does anyone have any idea what to do with old air conditioners? They range between "this kinda looks steampunk" and "forgotten on the back shelf of a store". As far as I know they all work, but in varying degrees of goodness, and I don't really have any way to test them.
